Meet Susan Lou

Name: Susan Lou

Year:   MS4Susan Lou

Hometown: Lake Oswego, Ore.

Interests: Internal medicine, community health, swimming

Fourth-year medical student, Susan Lou knows how to balance community with competition. The 2014 Oregon Masters Short Course State champion* in the 50-yard freestyle has a long history of service to others. With a degree in Human Biology and a concentration in Community Health from Stanford University, she’s not only coached disabled children in swim camp and educated and counseled HIV-positive veterans through AmeriCorps, she's also served on the OHSU Diversity Task Force and led the Internal Medicine Interest Group on campus. As a student leader both on the regional and national level, in 2014 Susan also attended the American Council of Physicians Leadership Day representing Oregon on Capitol Hill in Washington D.C.

For Susan, her dedication to service always comes back to people. “With each of my experiences, I was deeply moved by the human connection and the ability I had to empower others to succeed through education, connection to resources or by simply believing in them,” she said.
