Cell, Developmental and Cancer Biology (CDCB) Summer Internship Program
The goal of the program is to engage scientific curiosity in the next generation of scientists, challenging qualified college undergraduates to consider basic science research-related careers and providing them with initial experiences required to be competitive for science related continued education and careers in the future. Chemical Biology and Physiology Summer Undergraduate Research Program (CBP-SURP)
The Chemical Physiology and Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Program (CPB-SURP) is a 9-week summer internship designed to provide undergraduate students with hands-on training in innovative biomedical research in the disciplines of chemical biology, biochemistry, structural biology and physiology, conducted at a leading academic health center in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. A major goal of this program is to engage students in state-of-the-art techniques in biomedical discovery, leading to uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of health and disease. Interns will also participate in career development activities, which will provide students with the skills and knowledge to assess and plan their future careers in science. Participants in the CPB-SURP will work with PhD students, postdocs, faculty and research staff, building life-long relationships and skills for a successful career in biomedical research. Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE) Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Summer Internship
The Department of Medical Informatics and Clinical Epidemiology (DMICE) will be hosting College Undergraduate Biomedical Informatics and Data Science Internships Summer 2023. These internships will provide full-time summer internships in data science and biomedical informatics to college undergraduates to increase their skills with respect to data literacy and stewardship. The program’s goals are to provide exposure to data science and informatics with respect to best practices, impact of research on medicine and health, as well as possible career path for interns. In addition to the research project, each intern will attend weekly Informatics Research Conferences and will present their work at the end of the internship in a mini-symposium.

Department of Surgery Summer Clinical Research Internship Program
The summer clinical research internship program within the Department of Surgery invites motivated university and medical students to apply for the opportunity to perform research related to an ongoing clinical research study overseen by our surgery faculty. This eight-week program is designed for students with an interest in the research behind healthcare and what it means to be employed by a university hospital. Interns will work in pairs on a prospective study, culminating in the completion and submission of an abstract for acceptance at a local surgery conference. In addition to study analysis, interns will have the opportunity to shadow surgery faculty in clinic and the OR, attend weekly OHSU surgery conferences with faculty, and participate in workshops that illuminate the path toward improved health care through research and innovation.

Equity Summer Research Program
The OHSU Summer Equity Internship Program offers an exciting opportunity for diverse undergraduate students to spend eight weeks working with administrators, faculty, scientists, and graduate students in a research and community based setting. It is designed to offer research experiences to Portland area college school students that excel academically and come from socially and economically disadvantaged background.
Students can apply to one of the six tracks available:
- Biomedical Sciences - M.Sc. & Ph.D. (Provost Scholars Program at the West Campus, Portland Alcohol Research Center, Oregon Hearing and Research Center, Knight Cancer Institute's Cancer Early Detection Advanced Research Center, Graduate Medical Studies)

Murdock Undergraduate Collaborate Research Program
The program is designed for talented students in their junior year from Concordia University, George Fox University, Lewis & Clark College, Linfield College, Pacific University, University of Portland, Warner Pacific College, and Willamette University who are interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research, particularly those who are considering graduate school or an M.D./Ph.D. program. Students participate in ongoing research projects with investigators at OHSU and are paid a stipend. Students who are already committed to a career involving only clinical practice, such as private practice physicians or dentists, are specifically discouraged from applying. Application deadline is mid-October.

Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences (OIOHS) Summer Internships
Institute Summer Intern Research Awards are designed to introduce college sophomores, juniors, and seniors to one area of basic biological research or applied workplace translational research in the field. Typically 10-14 openings are available in the laboratories of the Institute scientists.The internships are funded by a stipend and are 2.5-3 months in duration, beginning in June.
Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC) Summer Fellowship
The Summer Fellowship Program supports students in 10-week apprenticeships for which a $3000 stipend is received (successful applicants who live out of state may be eligible for assistance with travel expenses). Principal Investigators in the Divisions of Neuroscience, Reproductive Sciences, and Pathobiology and Immunology oversee research programs related to high-priority medical needs that are expected to increase in importance and funding emphasis over the coming decades. These include research in neurodevelopment, neuroendocrinology, neurodegeneration, cancer, aging, mental illness, brain injury, addiction, obesity, reproductive health, immune response to infectious agents, and stem cells. Portland VA Research Foundation (PVARF) Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
PVARF is accepting applications for our 2023 Summer Research Fellowship.
Our annual summer program offers opportunities for undergraduate students to gain hands-on experience in laboratories and research activities at the VA Portland Health Care System. In addition to gaining invaluable research experience pivotal for college applications and resumes, students have the opportunity to meet with scientists from varying disciplines in the scientific field, work with mentors, and see how research is done.
The fellowship provides unique research opportunities across a range of research areas. Projects will be under the direction of a Principal Investigator (Mentor) and other team members. This is a 10-week program with 40 hours per week expected. The targeted start date for this year’s program is June 5, 2023. Participants will receive a support stipend of $5,500.

Provost Scholar Program (Oregon National Primate Research Center)
The 10-week Provost Scholars Program is part of a larger Undergraduate Summer Fellowship (USF) program administered by the Oregon National Primate Research Center (ONPRC), an institute of Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). Two students are funded through this program each summer. Eligible applicants will have completed at least 2 years in an accredited 4-year institution by the start date of the program and come from a group that is recognized as historically underrepresented in the health and science professions (including African-American/Black, Native American/Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander and Hispanic/Latino). Rural Experience Programs (Oregon AHEC)
Oregon AHEC offers the Oregon Rural Scholars Program (ORSP) in partnership with the Department of Family Medicine in the School of Medicine. The ORSP allows up to fifteen selected third year medical students to participate in a longitudinal clinical rotation in a rural setting, comprising a 4 week Family Medicine rotation and ORSP experience. This program is designed for students with a specific interest in a future rural practice.
UCEDD Summer Internship Program (SIP)
Held every summer, the UCEDD Summer Internship Program provides opportunities for high school or early college students to gain experience in the disability field, develop transferrable skills, and learn about various career paths in health care. Interns will receive training on disability theory, practice, and advocacy, as well as support and guidance in career planning and networking. Interns will work 15-20 hours per week on a project at one of the Institute on Development and Disability centers, gaining experience in research, education, training, and dissemination. After developing their own personal goals for the internship, interns will participate in activities that align with their career interests such as informational interviews, clinical shadowing, Grand Rounds, and other OHSU activities. Interns will also participate in group tours and field trips to OHSU labs, clinics, and facilities.
This internship is designed for students who are interested in pursuing a career in health care, specifically with a focus on disability. The following students are strongly encouraged to apply:
- Students who experience a disability
- Students with siblings or family members who experience a disability
- Students from historically underrepresented populations in the health and science professions
- Students from socially and economically disadvantaged populations
The UCEDD SIP is a paid opportunity and runs June 13 – August 8, 2016. Applications will be available in late December 2015 and are due January 31, 2016.
