Higher Ed Career Development Internship Program

Are you exploring careers in higher ed administration, specifically in faculty development, assessment and academic program review, career counseling, teaching and learning, equity, or education research?  Do you live in the Portland metro area, or Pacific Northwest?

Consider applying for our Higher Ed Career Development Internship Program! Internships can be for credit, for stipend (as budget allows), or neither. Interns will be asked to commit to at least one day/week, for at least two months as a minimum. Internships can be remote, in-person, or hybrid.  In-person is on Marquam Hill, near downtown Portland.

This internship is focused on acquiring career development/career coaching knowledge and skills, specifically for working with OHSU learners who are exploring career options and preparing for job applications.

Sample activities for career development interns:
Career development interns will have a period of intensive initial training to prepare them to interact with our learners

  • Shadowing career conversations
  • Transactional, 1:1 career advising appointments to review resumes and cover letters
  • More experienced interns may be able to meet 1:1 with learners to discuss initial steps of career exploration
  • Partnering in event planning and participation in special events (i.e. career events, professional panels)
  • Research and development of resources that can be used in career conversations and presentations with OHSU learners

This internship can include assisting on projects related to mentoring programs, educator skill development, assessment, or other higher ed administration projects.  We will share upcoming project options when we contact you.

Sample activities for higher education interns:

  • Conducting and summarizing findings from literature reviews
  • Analyzing existing program evaluation data, partnering with us in data collection and analysis (for needs assessments, for informing changes)
