About me

Dr. Nickel is a developmental pediatrician and professor of pediatrics at the Institute on Development and Disabiity (formerly Child Development and Rehabilitation Center, CDRC) , Department of Pediatrics, Oregon Health & Science University. He has over 35 years of experience evaluating and treating children, adolescents and young adults with a variety of developmental disabilities including autism spectrum disorders (ASD), ADHD, intellectual disability, cerebral palsy and spina bifida.

He is former Director of the Eugene CDRC office and former Director of the Center for Children and Youth with Special Health Needs (CYSHN), Oregon's statewide program for services for CYSHN which is housed at OHSU. He is currently medical consultant to the Center for CYSHN. He was formerly the health care representative on the Governor's Commission on Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) and is currently a member of the Commission's Screening, identification and Assessment committee.

His clinical activities are primarily in CDRC's child development program with a focus on children with autism.  He lives in Eugene and sees patients at the Eugene CDRC office..
