About me

I am a gastrointestinal surgeon, a doctor who operates on the digestive system. I offer my patients a variety of treatments, including:

My passion for surgery comes down to two things: providing excellent care and focusing on what's important to each patient.

I find the greatest reward in fixing new or chronic problems and then seeing the impact on my patients' lives. I have seen that patients with long-standing problems can have life-changing improvements from the right surgical care. I also love the ripple effect on the future of surgical care through teaching medical students and surgical trainees

I have been a colorectal surgeon since 2006. I am a native of Iowa, and I joined OHSU in 2025. I grew up on a farm in Iowa, where I learned the value of hard work, going the extra mile and seeing things through to the end. I have carried that work ethic through my entire life, making me the person and surgeon I am today.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my spouse and our dogs. We like experiencing all the Pacific Northwest has to offer and frequently find ourselves biking and hiking Oregon's great trails.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.
