About me

I am a trauma and acute care surgeon who treats adults with traumatic injuries, critical illness, abdominal emergencies. I am dual board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, and I have special training in surgical palliative care, where I support and guide patients and their families through serious injuries and difficult end-of-life situations.

I offer my patients a variety of treatments, including:

  • General surgery
  • Fixation of rib fractures
  • Robotic general surgery
  • Critical care

I believe the best care happens when I work closely with patients and their families, combining the most effective treatment and care with what matters most to them.

I grew up in Silverton, OR, and I completed my studies and training in McMinnville, OR, San Diego, CA and Seattle, WA. My research focuses on improving health and recovery for patients with traumatic injuries and making sure care is fair for everyone. Right now, I am studying different stages of trauma care — from before patients reach the hospital, to emergency care, hospital care, and follow-up after discharge — to see where underserved patients may be treated differently in ways that affect their outcomes. I am particularly interested in injury prevention, especially through community programs that are created and guided by the people most affected by injuries.

My partner and I welcomed our first child in 2024, and we love being new parents. I enjoy finding and eating good food and wine in all forms and from all cultures. I also love reading fiction and sci-fi, karaoke, volleyball, recreational biking, hiking and paddleboarding.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.
