About me
I am a trauma, critical care and emergency general surgeon at OHSU. I care for patients of all ages who are facing sudden, serious and life-threatening conditions. A special focus of my work is surgery for chest wall injuries, including rib and sternum fractures.
I completed medical school at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences and finished my residency and fellowship at Brooke Army Medical Center. Through my military service, I have practiced surgery across the United States and internationally, including Korea and Africa. Working in these different environments shaped how I approach patient care, emphasizing adaptability, precision and strong teamwork in high-acuity settings.
My research interests include blood resuscitation, augmented reality–based telementorship and austere surgery. I am interested in developing new technologies and systems that improve outcomes for critically injured patients, especially in places with limited resources or during high-stress situations.
My approach to care is evidence-based, collaborative and centered on each patient. I focus on teamwork, precision and adaptability in emergency situations. My experience in trauma, critical care and emergency surgery in the U.S. and abroad influences how I care for patients of all ages during sudden and life-threatening emergencies. I am committed to achieving the best possible outcomes while honoring each patient’s values, goals, and individual circumstances.
I believe that respect for patient autonomy and open communication are essential to high-quality care. I work to partner with patients and their families in shared decision-making, making sure they feel informed, heard and respected, even in stressful moments. I value being part of a multidisciplinary team and am motivated by caring for patients in urgent and complex situations where coordination, innovation and compassion can make a real difference.
