About me

Dr. Maier’s areas of clinical specialization are HIV, HIV prevention, viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections (STIs). She also greatly enjoys practicing general infectious diseases, from endocarditis to prosthetic joint infections, and she has represented the ID section in a multidisciplinary collaboration around the care of individuals with neuropathic foot infections. She practices outpatient medicine at the Portland VA, and inpatient medicine at OHSU and the Portland VA. She loves working with the internal medicine residents and infectious diseases fellows at OHSU, and the Veterans at the VA.

Dr. Maier is committed to promoting equity in health care and health care training. She recently served as co-chair of OHSU’s Gender Equity in Academic Health and Medicine (GEAHM) committee, and currently serves on the Department of Medicine P&T committee. Alongside Dr. Hakki, she has also started a mentorship program for junior faculty within the ID Division. She loves teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, and is actively engaged in teaching both in both clinical and educational settings.  She enjoys supporting the ID fellows at the Portland VA in her role as the VA ID fellowship Site Director.

Dr. Maier’s research focus is in public health, epidemiology, and health care systems, focusing on HIV, HIV prevention, viral hepatitis, and STIs.  She is also committed to developing data infrastructure to inform wise clinical, operational, and policy decisions for the VA national system and more broadly. She has led the development of two national databases within the VA: one encompassing all individuals with HIV in VA care, the second encompassing all individuals with hepatitis C in VA care.  She has evaluated the cascade of hepatitis C care within the VA, whether hepatitis C cure is associated with health care cost benefits, and STIs within the VA.

Dr. Maier’s areas of professional focus are HIV prevention and care, sexuality transmitted infections, and viral hepatitis, and how policy and clinical operations influence health care outcomes.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.
