About me
*Always open to pregnant patients.*
I am a family practice physician who cares for patients of all ages. I offer my patients a variety of treatments, including comprehensive health consultation, prenatal care, cancer screening, skin cancer screening and treatment.
I love building relationships with patients and their families. The continuity that is core to being a Family Physician has offered me the rare privilege to connect with my patients and experience the wide range of the human experience this world has to offer. Helping patients through challenging diagnoses no matter the outcome has deepened my understanding of the human condition which continues to fuel my work.
My interest in primary care, maternal and child health, and HIV began while I was working with patients in Haiti, Guatemala, and Honduras. During my residency in Southern California, I worked with migrant farm workers, and I spent the first eight years of my career at a community health center in rural Oregon. These experiences strengthened my passion for giving high-quality care to all people. My training in operative obstetrics has given me a very rewarding career caring for people during pregnancy and childbirth, which is still a main focus of my work. I am committed to OHSU’s mission of teaching and patient care, and I look forward to growing alongside the organization and my patients.
I have lived in rural Colorado, Boston, Washington, D.C., Southern California, and rural Oregon. I now call Portland home, where I live with my family. On weekends, I enjoy hiking, paddleboarding, cycling, and spending time in Portland’s parks and green spaces. I also love cooking for friends and family.

This was my introductory visit with Dr. Alkire. I came looking for a doctor who could help me navigate through my collection of physical difficulties and specialists to find the best plan for my continuing care. Also, I need a doctor who will help me understand the aging process as I advance through it. Dr. Alkire seemed knowledgeable and caring and I look forward to working with him.
Kind and thorough
Easy to schedule the appointment. Was met with friendly, professional staff throughout my visit. Very satisfied with care received.
Greeted with handshake and smile. Kept good eye contact and very good listener.
The clinician was awesome! He listened to my concerns and recommended appropriate treatment.
It was the best interaction I have had with a Dr. In that particular building I felt very cared for and fully taken care of
Interested in what I had to say, listened and provided feedback
Excellent
Dr. Alkire is excellent. Great listener, empathetic, knowledgeable. I am grateful to have him as my primary care physician.
I was very relieved to FINALLY be heard by a physician regarding my numerous symptoms I've been asking for help with for over 2 years. The Dr made eye contact while speaking and listening and believed me when I expressed how badly these symptoms are interfering with my quality of life. I was given 2 meds that immediately changed how I felt and has removed ALL of my symptoms. I'm grateful to feel like myself again but also very angry that I've been ignored, dismissed, & told "there's nothing we can do" for years. Getting relief shouldn't be such a rare experience.
