About me

Dr. Schwarzenberger trained in internal medicine prior to studying dermatology, and much of her career has been focused on providing care to patients with skin conditions related to their underlying medical conditions, such as cancer, blood disorders, and endocrine problems.  She has specialized training in immunodermatology and did research at the NIH during her fellowship in mechanisms of allergic contact dermatitis.  At the Center for Health and Healing, she runs the contact dermatitis clinic, where she sees patients with chronic dermatitis and performs specialized allergy testing, called patch testing.

Beyond providing clinical care, Dr. Schwarzenberger has served in leadership roles in many professional organizations.  She is a former Director of the American Academy of Dermatology, and has since worked with the organization helping to advance health care reform efforts to ensure better access to high quality care for all.  She is a career educator, whose passion in medical education is mentoring medical students and residents.

Dr. Schwarzenberger and her husband, who is also an academic physician, have been privileged to be on the faculty at several outstanding institutions across the country.  However, they both always felt that they belong on the west coast, and are delighted to finally have arrived with their son and menagerie of pets.  Outside of work, Dr. Schwarzenberger enjoys the outdoors, cycling, skiing, and getting together with friends at the many wonderful restaurants in the Portland area.
