About me

Dr. Esther G. Chong is a medical oncologist specializing in breast cancer, with expertise treating all subtypes across both early stage and metastatic disease. Her research has been presented at national conferences and published in leading journals, with particular interests in survivorship, young women with breast cancer, lobular carcinomas, and the use of biomarkers to guide personalized therapy.

She believes the best care starts with truly knowing her patients, their backgrounds, stories, and priorities, so she can partner with them on a tailored treatment plan that reflects their goals. She knows a breast cancer diagnosis does not end with initial treatment, and is dedicated to addressing long term side effects and helping patients thrive well beyond their diagnosis.

Outside of work, Dr. Chong enjoys paddleboarding with her family, practicing yoga, and checking out local thrift stores.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.

  1. I have been pretty happy up until recently. Since my most recent diagnosis I have not felt supported by the staff or doctors. I have had a very difficult diagnosis and I don't not feel they showed compassion or care for my situation. I felt like they were impatient with me and were not understanding of how difficult this diagnosis was. I felt completely unsupported during a very difficult time.

  2. Very clear communicator and personable.

  3. She was warm and caring, addressing all my concerns.

  4. She was very kind and knowledgeable but did not sugar coat things with was very nice.

  5. As I indicated above it was positive and constructive. She was at ease, supportive and communicated well including the limited of the medications she could offer at that time. I am interested in alternative tx paths since the meds available have very disruptive and painful side effects which patients are expected to live with. This issue however is not a sign that my first meeting was difficult because it was very positive in all the ways that it could be.

  6. Dr. Chong is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to.

  7. Very personable. Easy to talk to and answered my questions in language I understood. If I asked her to explain something better, she was more than willing to do that.

  8. Dr Chong was great and really kind and supportive. Smart and helpful. Very grateful she's my doc.
