Information for international students
The OHSU School of Nursing accepts international applicants for most programs. You are considered an international applicant if you are not a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, regardless of where you attended school.
If you’re applying as an international student, here’s what you need to know:
- F-1 student visas are only available for campus-based programs.
- You are not eligible for online, distance or hybrid programs.
- You must submit the materials listed below along with the standard admission requirements.
TOEFL exam
To show English proficiency, you must submit TOEFL exam scores. The OHSU School of Nursing requires a minimum TOEFL iBT score of 83 for admission and does not accept IELTS scores.
Foreign transcript evaluations
You must use an official transcript evaluation service to translate all your foreign transcripts and provide a course-by-course evaluation that includes:
- Course name
- Grade received using a U.S. grading scale
- Cumulative grade point average (GPA)
- Degree earned
If you have international nursing credentials, you must show that your nursing education is equivalent to U.S. standards.
Recommended evaluation services:
- CES Credential Evaluation Service if your background is in nursing
- World Education Services (WES) if your background is in a non-nursing field
RN licensure
If you’re an internationally trained RN applying to a master’s or doctoral program, you must meet licensure requirements. Contact the Oregon State Board of Nursing to learn how to get an Oregon RN license.
- To apply, you must be eligible for an Oregon RN license.
- If admitted, you must have an active Oregon RN license before classes start.
- You need to provide proof of licensure before the first day of classes.
- Start this process early to ensure you have your license in time.
Information for student veterans
As a student veteran you may qualify for education funding to attend OHSU School of Nursing.
