About me

Dr. Suvi Neukam is a dual Finnish-American citizen originally from New England where she grew up in New Hampshire and then studied molecular biology-biochemistry and philosophy at Middlebury College in Vermont. Before attending medical school in Maine, Dr Neukam worked at a health care best practice research firm in Washington, DC. During medical school she completed a year-long medical teaching fellowship and also engaged in geriatric research at the University of California San Diego.  She completed her internal medicine residency, chief residency and geriatric fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University and is now a geriatric doctor who sees primary care patients within the OHSU internal medicine clinic.  She also leads the ambulatory geriatrics consultative service where she is joined by medical trainees.  In clinical and classroom settings she has the opportunity to teach medical students, residents and fellows. She has special interests in physical activity and healthy aging along with care planning conversations. 

When she is not with patients, Dr Neukam enjoys spending time with her family outdoors, riding her bicycle, amateur piano playing, writing snail mail and using her children as an excuse to become an expert in arts and crafts.

  1. All of the OHSU physicians that I have encountered in the past 10 years have been good. This comment includes both residents and attending physicians. None have been quite as attentive and most importantly demonstrated through demeanor and follow up the strengths of Dr Sufi Neukam. She hit the mark on all aspects. Friendly, emphathetic, knowledgeable, took her time making sure she understood my concerns, recognized that the hospital exceeded the metic by which someone should have reached out to me, explained test findings to the best of her ability absent a meeting with a hematologist and outlined next steps. Contacted the specialist's office which then reached out to me the same day. Ordered medical tests and sent in a prescription for me in the absence of my PCP. I was better able to understand my condition in context and as a result my anxiety levels decreased dramatically and I am able to go on a holiday to Asia in peace. The overall approach here left. Me feeling my life mattered. She did everything she said she would do.
