Thank you for visiting my homepage. I sincerely love being an Ob/Gyn! I cannot imagine practicing any other field of medicine. Being an Ob/Gyn allows me to partner with my patients every day. It is a privilege to teach a woman about her menstrual cycle, the importance of regular gyn care and pap smears, and empowering her with birth control when the time is right. It is an honor to share the adventure of pregnancy with my patients and their partners. Together, my patients and I continue to experience the pleasures and frustrations of menopause. Additionally, I offer my patients gynecologic surgery services from simple to complex as the need arises.

Since 2016 I have served as Director of Gynecology for the OHSU Transgender Health Program. It has been my absolute pleasure and honor to provide affirming care for transgender and gender nonconforming patients in a safe and positive environment.

I was born and raised in San Jose, CA. My parents were both teachers and dedicated their lives to multicultural education. My mother was originally from Grants Pass, OR and taught me to love the great outdoors. My father is Mexican-American, and our home was a bustling hub of international students that were part of my family’s exchange programs to Mexico and Japan. I attended Yale University and received a degree in psychobiology and had a special interest in sculpture. After living briefly in Spain, I attended MCP-Hahnemann School of Medicine in Philadelphia where I met my wonderful husband who is a perinatologist and geneticist. I did my Ob/Gyn residency at Kaiser Oakland and then stayed on as staff for 5 years before deciding to move north to the beautiful pacific northwest. We have 2 young children who are a joy and keep us busy! My brother is a professional photographer in the Bay Area, and my family continues to live in San Jose. In my spare time, I enjoy flowers, travel, art, and spending time with friends and family.

  • Nov 20, 2018

  • Nov 18, 2018

Dr. Schaffer is so nice! She had a completely booked schedule & fit me in. She is so sweet, caring, and down to earth. Made me and my husband feel very comfortable & safe in her care.

  • Nov 16, 2018

My experience with this provider was amazing. She was very very thorough. She tested some things I'd asked for before that nobody else had and she kind of did that on her own by looking at my records. She was very educated on my records and my background history and she also made me feel extremely comfortable. Not only that, was the after care, making sure I had washcloths and things to clean up with. A lot of providers forget to do that and leave us in the room with nothing but tissues. So amazing provider, would definitely recommend to anybody.

  • Oct 22, 2018

Thank you for the holistic approach and taking such good care of me, Dr. Shaffer!

  • Oct 19, 2018

Dr. Schaffer was kind and willing to answer all my questions. I appreciated her ability to explain things in a clear and understandable fashion while also being engaging and fun.

  • Oct 12, 2018

She was very interested in getting a full picture of my health, more so than most doctors. However she was slightly dismissive of my concerns and of my identity, which I hadn't expected from someone who works with trans people regularly. She also made some assumptions about me that made me very uncomfortable. From a medical standpoint she seemed great but from a personal standpoint I was slightly off put

  • Oct 05, 2018

Dr. Shaffer is very personable and engaging. She does not leave any questions lingering and makes sure that as a patient you are informed and aware of what to expect prior and after your procedure. She also is a whiz at making folks feel comfortable and at ease. Just ask my girlfriend. :)

  • Sep 21, 2018

She listens to me, and trusts that I know my own body. In our last appointment, she was able to explain things to me in a way that made sense, and helped me make better medical decisions.

  • Sep 20, 2018

    She's amazing!

  • Sep 19, 2018

amazing. she is thoughtful, caring, and easy to talk to.

  • Sep 19, 2018

Dr Shaffer is an incredibly compassionate person, and a wonderful doctor- warm, kind, and a great listener! As a resource and huge ally for folks in the trans community, Dr Shaffer is priceless! An absolute gem.

  • Sep 18, 2018

Dr. Shaffer is the best, and I would 100% recommend her to other trans patients!

  • Sep 15, 2018

She made me feel extremely comfortable in a very high stress situation for me. She was also very informative without feeling scripted or fake. Her honesty was reassuring and much appreciated. I will be going back to her as I need to.

  • Aug 21, 2018

The wait time was entirely too long. Board had 5-10 mins. I had to wait 45mins. Stated that another patient was asking her questions. That is just inconsiderate of other patients' time and what they need to accomplish.

  • Aug 18, 2018

I love Lishana. My father had just died days before my appointment and she took extra time to talk with me which I appreciated very much. Not only does she care about you as a patient, but also as a person. She also involves her patients in the decisions about their care, and treats them respectfully.
