About me

Dr. Emily Waterman loves working with patients to promote health and healthy behaviors. Her specialty, family medicine, lets her incorporate her diverse interests — including reproductive health and family planning, lifestyle medicine, gender-affirming care, and geriatrics — into her work as a primary care doctor.

Dr. Waterman is bilingual in English and Spanish.

Dr. Waterman's interests in medicine and public health developed during a summer she spent teaching English and sex education in a Nicaraguan high school. Her students' different ideas about reproductive health prompted her to learn about the cultural and social context underlying health behaviors. She went on to earn both a medical degree and a master of public health degree. In 2020 she became certified as a Lifestyle Medicine Physician through the American Board of Lifestyle Medicine.

Before that, she also studied in Quito, Ecuador, and learned and taught salsa dancing.

Outside of work, Dr. Waterman loves spending time with her family, doing yoga, growing food in her garden, and trying new plant-based recipes.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.
