Dr. Luke Strnad (he/him/his), completed medical school at Loma Linda University School of Medicine before switching coasts to Boston for his internal medicine residency and chief residency at the Beth Israel Deaconess Department of Medicine (BIDMC) where he became board certified in internal medicine. He traveled back west for his infectious disease fellowship at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) where he was a chief fellow. He joined the OHSU infectious diseases faculty in 2016 where he is board certified in infectious diseases. He has a secondary faculty appointment in the OHSU/PSU School of Public Health in Epidemiology Programs.

Dr. Strnad is on the clinician educator faculty pathway within the School of Medicine where he educationally works with multiple learner groups and is the Associate Program Director for the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program. As part of his educational leadership work, he serves as the Director of Faculty Development in the Division of Infectious Diseases. In the School of Public Health, he serves on the admission committee for Epidemiology Programs and academic mentor for MPH and PhD students. At a national level he is a member of the IDSA Mentorship & Recruitment Subcommittee and a member of the IDSA’s Medical Education Community of Practice. He was recognized for these efforts with a junior faculty teaching award from the Internal Medicine residency in 2017.

Dr. Strnad has specific clinical and focuses on mycobacterial infections, particularly tuberculosis, bloodstream infections including Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia and infective endocarditis, and infections in populations with active substance use.

• He currently does clinical TB work in conjunction with the Oregon State TB Program and non-tuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) clinical, educational and academic work at OHSU in collaboration with Dr. Kevin Winthrop, Dr. Cara Varley and the Center For Infectious Disease Studies - OHSU-PSU School of Public Health (ohsu-psu-sph.org where he is a Co-PI on multiple studies.
• He oversees a clinical cohort and quality improvement projects regarding Staph aureus bacteremia and is a member of the IDSA/ESCMID Clinical Practice Guidelines for Staphylococcus Aureus Bacteremia.
• He is the Director of Quality Improvement for the Division of Infectious Diseases and as part of that role serves as the ID representative to the leadership team for OHSU’s Multidisciplinary Endocarditis (MEND) Conference Program.
• He is also involved collaborative work with OHSU's Addiction Medicine Program (IMPACT) designing and evaluating different models of care for patients with active substance use disorders and concomitant bacterial infections including the OPTIONS-DC model.
• In recognition of his academic mentoring of trainees within these above roles, he was awarded the Faculty Contributions to Scholarship Award from the Internal Medicine residency in 2020.

In his spare time Dr. Strnad enjoys taking walks through the city, exploring the Portland food scene, hiking and camping in the beautiful outdoors of the Pacific Northwest. He also likes to run, read and is an avid ice hockey fan. He strives to protest against injustice and inequity in his spare time as well as in his professional work.
