About me

Dr. Raphael Sun is a surgeon who provides:

  • Fetal surgery, including:
  • Complex surgical oncology (cancer surgery)
  • Colorectal surgery (surgery for the lower digestive tract)

As a member of the fetal care team, he is an expert in prenatal conditions including:

  • Congenital diaphragmatic hernia
  • Sacrococcygeal teratoma
  • Gastroschisis
  • Omphalocele
  • Congenital lung lesions

Dr. Sun chose pediatric surgery because he can make a lifelong difference in children’s health. His two young children were born during his pediatric surgery fellowship, and he understands how parents feel when they bring their children to the hospital.

  • An M.D. degree from the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine
  • A residency in general surgery at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, where he also served as an administrative chief resident

  • Advanced training in perinatal/fetal surgery at Texas Children’s Fetal Center

When he’s not working, Dr. Sun enjoys spending time with his wife and children. He enjoys cooking for his family, traveling, and spending time outdoors in the Pacific Northwest. He serves in the United States Air Force Reserve.
