About me

Dr. Melanie Hakar is a native of Colorado, and is excited to be a part of the OHSU Pathology Department. She particularly enjoys teaching and interacting with medical students and residents. Her particular areas of interest include pediatric neuropathology, vascular malformations, and nerve sheath tumors.

Dr. Hakar received her medical degree from Touro University Nevada College of Osteopathic Medicine. She completed her residency training in Anatomic Pathology at Northwestern University, followed by Pediatric Pathology fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She is currently completing a Neuropathology fellowship at OHSU, and serves as part-time faculty in Pediatric Pathology.

Dr. Hakar enjoys exploring the Pacific Northwest with her three-year-old daughter. She couples her love for baking with long-distance running and triathlon.
