Meet our neurologists who drive excellence in neuroscience

Our faculty are pioneers. They’ve conducted the first deep brain stimulation surgery, tested complementary and alternative therapies, and launched clinical trials to improve brain health.

OHSU neurologists and neuroscientists are innovators who:

What sets us apart

Our faculty are recognized nationally for excellence in care, research and education. 

Clinical care meets the highest standards. This includes comprehensive stroke certification by the Joint Commission and center of excellence recognition by the Parkinson’s Foundation, the ALS Association, and the National Association of Epilepsy Centers.

Research expertise is well-established. Since 1990, the National Institutes of Health has recognized OHSU as an Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center. The Junger Centers for Neurosciences Research has a 20-year history of bridging the gap between basic science and clinical care.

U.S. News and World Report ranks OHSU highly. Neurology and neurosurgery typically rank in the nation’s top 50 programs, and OHSU School of Medicine is highly ranked for research. OHSU Hospital is recognized as the best in Oregon.

Faculty culture

Our faculty are entrepreneurial, taking on new research projects, and learning new ways to improve patient care. 

We are cooperative, rather than competitive, and work across disciplines and departments to treat patients and conduct research. We frequently work with peers in other organizations, like the Portland VA Medical Center.

Our neurologists also practice inclusion. Many of us work with vulnerable patients, from rural residents to military veterans, in person and virtually. Physicians make clinical trials accessible and promote them widely. This makes cutting-edge drugs available to anyone who qualifies for a study.

Meet department faculty

Vijayshree Yadav, M.B.B.S., M.C.R., FANA, FAAN, is the interim department chair. Dr. Yadav also heads OHSU’s Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology and co-directs the MS and Neuroimmunology Fellowship. She is a physician-scientist who has presented research at national and international conferences. Her research interests include complementary treatments for MS.
