The Department of Neurology is home to 110 faculty working across six divisions and four sections to provide care, conduct research and support nine fellowship programs.

  • Gold Star Plus designation from the American Heart Association for stroke care the American Heart Association for stroke care
  • First in the United States to perform deep brain stimulation surgery, establishing OHSU as a leader in surgical therapies for Parkinson’s disease
  • Center of excellence recognition by the Parkinson’s Foundation, the ALS Association, the National Association of Epilepsy Centers and the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Divisions

Division of Aging, Alzheimer’s and Related Disorders

We are home to two nationally recognized research programs, two fellowship programs and the most clinical trials in the Pacific Northwest.

Division of Movement Disorders

We have been a Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence for over 20 years and are national experts in deep brain stimulation. Our Balance Disorders Laboratory has published more on movement disorders  than anywhere else in the world.

Division of Comprehensive Neurology

We operate inpatient and outpatient services in Portland, Bend and across the region through our virtual neurohospitalist service.

Division of Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroimmunology

We are home to the OHSU Multiple Sclerosis Center, designated a comprehensive care center by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Our fellowship program won the Society’s  Institutional Clinician Training Award.

Division of Epilepsy

We power OHSU’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center, offering state-of-the-art monitoring and Oregon’s only minimally invasive robot-MRI-laser system to identify and treat complex epilepsy.

Division of Stroke and Vascular Neurology | Oregon Stroke Center

We operate as the Oregon Stroke Center and provide 24/7/365 access to medical and interventional stroke therapies to 16 regional hospitals. Physicians provide telestroke services while advancing the field through pioneering clinical trials.

Sections

Section of Headache Medicine

Our faculty are double board-certified specialists in neurology and headache medicine. We offer a one-year fellowship that includes clinical and research experience with leading-edge treatments for headache and migraine pain. 

Section of Integrative Neurology and Intraoperative Neuromonitoring

We investigate complementary treatments for pain such as meditation and acupuncture and manage a surgical monitoring and assessment program.

Section of Neurocritical Care

Our faculty are experts from neurology, neurosurgery, and anesthesiology. We work together to provide intensive hospital care, conduct research, and oversee three neurocritical care fellowship tracks.

Section of Neuromuscular Medicine

We offer four clinical programs, a fellowship, and an EMG lab accredited by the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
