7th Annual MS and CNS Neuroimmunology Symposium

Neurons, abstract

This symposium will provide health care professionals the information needed to identify, refer, treat and/or implement practice changes to improve the care of patients with neuroimmunological disorders. Specific disorders discussed this year include Emerging cell-based therapies in MS, molecular landscape of white matter disorders, diffuse midline glioma: A serious and under-recognized mimic of inflammatory myelopathy, Biomarkers in MS, and pain management for complex and chronic disorders.

Who should attend
Neurologists, neuroimmunologists, rheumatologists, ophthalmologists, neurosurgeons, physicians, nurse practitioners, rehabilitation including physical and occupational therapists, researchers, and other medical professionals in the field of neuroimmunological disorders are invited to attend.

Learning objectives

Upon completion of attending the 7th Annual MS and CNS Neuroimmunology Symposium attendees will be able to:

  • Provide examples of hereditary white matter disorders, and discuss application of genetic testing in patients with white matter disorders.
  • Understand why diffuse midline gliomas are often missed in the workup of myelopathy, and describe the radiographic characteristics of diffuse midline gliomas of the spinal cord and contrast them with inflammatory myelopathies/myelitis.
  • To understand that the various cell-based therapeutic strategies under study as potential therapy for MS have distinct purposes, and to appreciate the potential benefits, risks, and methodological uncertainties with stem cell transplantation.
  • To describe biomarkers associated with MS, and the strength of that association.
  • Review the anatomy of nociceptive pathways, and discuss current treatment options for central neuropathic pain.
