In addition to maintaining this website of resources and offerings that exist across OHSU and beyond, and which may be beneficial for the development of School of Medicine faculty, SoM Faculty Development also supports specific OHSU programs that are designed for faculty.

Call for proposals: Faculty Development Grant Award
Thanks to The Dean Sharon Anderson Faculty Development Fund, administered by the School of Medicine Office of Faculty Development, we are pleased to announce a call for proposals for grants supporting SoM faculty in advancing their professional growth, educational and research innovations, scholarly activity, leadership development and the pursuit of well-being, diversity, equity and inclusion.
This award is designed to enhance the skills, capabilities, and career trajectories of faculty by funding opportunities that directly contribute to excellence at OHSU.

Purpose of the award
The Faculty Development Grants aim to:
- Support faculty in acquiring new knowledge, training, or skills that enhance their professional effectiveness.
- Promote innovation in health professions or research education, clinical practice, and academic scholarship.
- Strengthen leadership capacity within the SoM and OHSU.
- Encourage participation in high‑impact professional activities aligned with SoM and institutional priorities.
Allowable uses of funds
Up to $5,000 may be requested to support activities such as:
- Registration, travel, and lodging for professional conferences, workshops, or short courses
- Enrollment in certificate or training programs
- Costs associated with educational or scholarly projects
- Development of new teaching materials or curricula
- Specialized coaching, mentoring, or leadership development programs
- Other activities that clearly support professional or academic growth
Funds may not be used for general salary support, routine departmental operations, or purchases not directly tied to faculty development.
Eligibility
Applicants must:
- Hold a faculty appointment within the School of Medicine
- Have approval from their department chair or supervisor prior to submission
- Demonstrate how the proposed activity directly contributes to their professional development and aligns with departmental or institutional goals
Proposal requirements
A complete proposal must include:
- Cover Page
- Name, title, department, contact information
- Project or activity title
- Total amount requested
- Proposal Narrative (1–2 pages, 6,000 characters max)
- Description of the proposed activity
- Expected impact on the applicant’s professional development
- Relevance to departmental, school and/or institutional priorities
- Budget and Budget Justification
- Itemized expenses (uploaded as an attachment. Please use this template when creating your expense list)
- Clear explanation of how requested funds will be used
- Clear explanation of how any additional funds needed will be covered, should the requested / available amount of the award not cover all costs
- Chair/Supervisor Endorsement (letter uploaded as an attachment)
Review criteria
Proposals will be evaluated based on:
- Clarity and feasibility of the proposed activity
- Demonstrated potential for meaningful professional development
- Alignment with organizational priorities
- Responsible and appropriate use of funds
- Potential for sustained impact on teaching, research, or clinical practice
Award expectations
Award recipients will be asked to:
- Use funds within 12 months of award notification
- Submit a brief final report summarizing activities and outcomes
- Share learnings with colleagues when appropriate (e.g., presentation at a faculty meeting, seminar, faculty development summit, or provide a written summary)
