Kathy Jorda, M.D. Assistant Professor, Obstetrics and Gynecology I want to publish education scholarship after teaching trauma-informed care principles to medical students during their ob/gyn clerkship. Medical students often feel uncomfortable and unprepared to obtain a sexual history, particularly for female veterans who have experienced military sexual trauma. I’m planning a 1hr session introducing trauma-informed care principles to medical students at the beginning of their ob/gyn rotation. I’d like to administer a pre- and post-intervention survey, as well as at the end of their rotation to see if they used or observed trauma-informed care principles in the clinical setting. I will also collect qualitative data on medical students' perceived barriers to obtaining a sexual history and use that data to incorporate new educational content as appropriate. Eventually I'd like to incorporate standardized patients as well as a panel of survivors to speak to the group and study which intervention is more useful for medical students during their clerkship.
