Biography
Dr. Joel Burnett is Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Program Director for Health Equity and Community Engagement for the OHSU Internal Medicine Residency Program. He graduated from University of Kansas School of Medicine and completed internal medicine residency training at OHSU. He then served as Chief Resident for the OHSU Internal Medicine Residency Program before joining OHSU faculty as a primary care physician.
Dr. Burnett's academic interests include physician advocacy, health equity, medical education, and ethics and professionalism. He has served in regional and national leadership positions with the American College of Physicians (ACP) with a focus on health policy advocacy. He serves on the Editorial Board for the Journal of Health Advocacy, a peer-reviewed scholarly journal which aims to achieve a just, equitable, and healthy society by disseminating health advocacy research and activities. Since 2025, he has served as Associate Program Director for Health Equity & Community Engagement for the OHSU Internal Medicine Residency Program.
