Biography

I’m an orthopedic surgeon focused on sports medicine, shoulder and knee surgery.

I maintain a busy clinical practice focused on surgical repair and replacement of cartilage, ligament and soft tissue injury around the knee (ACL) and shoulder (rotator cuff). I had served as the Director of Sports Medicine in the Department of Orthopedics & Rehabilitation for ~10 years. I have a particular interest in surgical care of Osteochondritis Dissecans, osteochondral defects, revision ACL surgery and rapid rehabilitation practices and reducing pain post operatively.

I trained at Boston University School of Medicine, where I earned both my medical degree and a doctorate in molecular biolgoy. After medical school, I completed an orthopedic surgery residency at Brown University. Additional advanced fellowship training in orthopedic trauma (Brown University) and in sports medicine/shoulder and knee surgery, was completed in 201 at University of California, San Francisco.

I have published extensively and am recognized internationally for advancements in cartilage transplant and novel approaches to knee injury and disease. To date, I have over 100 scholarly articles related to best practices and advances surrounding knee and shoulder sports medicine surgery and cartilage repair. This includes pioneering first in human ISA knee system procedure in 2024, artificial alternatives to Osteochondral transplant and advance rehabilitation after cartilage transplant surgery.

I am/have been the lead Principal Investigator on multiple national FDA-regulated clinical trials related to cartilage surgery and maintain a particular interest in new frontiers for cartilage repair and tissue regeneration.

I am a founding member of the MOCA (Metrics of OsteoChondral Allograft) study group, an active member of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS), American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the American Association of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
