PI: Dra. Amy Valent, DO IRB#: 28056
Contraception and birth control
LevoCept® Hormonal IUD Study
This study is currently closed to enrollment.
The purpose of this study is to investigate a new form of hormonal contraception called LevoCept® as a possible long-acting and reversible hormonal IUD. PI: Jeffrey Jensen MD, MPH eIRB# 21929
Emergency Contraceptive Disparities Study
This study is being conducted to learn more about why some people are at greater risk for oral emergency contraceptive failure while others are not. We are hoping to find out if genetic differences impact the risk of emergency contraception failure. PI: Alison Edelman, MD, MPH; IRB# 24952
Pregnancy and infertility
Continuous glucose monitoring for management of type 2 diabetes in pregnancy
The purpose of this study is to provide pregnant people with type 2 diabetes an opportunity to participate in a project that will help us understand if using CGM in pregnancy can improve sugars and lower pregnancy complications compared to our current standard blood sugar monitoring using fingersticks. PI: Amy Valent, DO, IRB#: 27883
Assessing the use of wearable activity trackers in a pregnancy cohort
The purpose of this study is to determine the feasibility of assessing physical activity in pregnant patients using wearable activity trackers. We will also collect pilot data on the behavioral impact of wearable activity trackers on physical activity in pregnancy after counseling. PIs: Danielle Prentice, DO and Sherilyn DeStefano, MD, eIRB#: 28457
Clinical Utility of a Predictive Model of Placental Insufficiency
The goal of this study is to better determine which pregnancies are at increased risk of complications like stillbirth, growth restriction, and preeclampsia. We will test a combination of lab tests, ultrasound studies, and risk factors to determine risk. The long-term goal is to use this improved risk assessment to improve monitoring of high risk pregnancies and prevent preventable stillbirths. PI: Karen J. Gibbins, MD, MSCI, eIRB#: 26808
IVIDA2
The purpose of this is to determine the efficacy and safety of treating pregnant patients who have a diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia with an iron infusion compared to oral iron supplements and evaluating the effectiveness of both. Both study treatments are currently used in obstetric practice but have not been adequately compared in pregnancy. PI: Ashley Benson, M.D., M.A., M.S., IRB#: 27128
Pregnancy Data Repository to Assess Management of Type 1 Diabetes with Diabetes Technology (PRAM-T1D)
Purpose of the Study: Help us understand how pregnant people with T1D use health tech to take care of their diabetes. Examples of health tech are glucose sensors (CGM; continuous glucose monitoring) and
insulin pumps. Our goal is to make managing T1D in pregnancy easier. By sharing your T1D pregnancy data, you could help make diabetes health tech work better in the future for people with T1D who become pregnant. PI: Amy Valent, DO
Using Inhaled insulin among pregnant people with GDM. (INHALE-GDM)
This study is being done to find out how well inhaling insulin can lower your blood sugar after a meal compared to the standard insulin injection given with your meal. We believe inhaling insulin may work better but we do not know this yet so this study will help us find out. 30 pregnant people from 5 sites around the U.S. will be in the study. PI: Amy Valent, DO; IRB#: 28056
Exercise and Pregnancy Study
This is a study designed to measure the effects of the timing of low-resistance or cardio exercise on blood sugars after eating a meal. We are inviting pregnant women at less than 30 weeks who have been diagnosed with gestational diabetes and are managing their diabetes with nutrition and lifestyle behaviors. PI: Amy Valent, DO; IRB: 20116

Remote Mindfulness-Education for Women with Provoked Localized Vulvodynia
This is a study designed to learn more about the use of an online remote education and mindfulness practice program for pain and anxiety associated with provoked localized vulvodynia. Participants will be randomized to one of two groups: online education seminars alone or mindfulness practice using the Headspace app in combination with the online education seminars. PI: Amie Leaverton, M.D. IRB# 18191
Vestibulectomy Comparison Study
The purpose of this research study is to compare two vestibulectomy surgical techniques, modified and traditional, for the treatment of provoked localized vulvodynia (PVD). This study may help us learn about the best options for treating PVD. PI: Catherine Leclair, MD IRB# 24107
Other areas of women's health
Endometrial Responses to GLP-1 Agonist Use and Bariatric Surgery
The purpose of this study is to understand the impact of GLP-1 agonist medication (used for weight loss, e.g., Wegovy, Zepbound) and bariatric surgery (weight loss surgery, e.g., gastric bypass) on the menstrual cycle. Principal Investigator: Leo Han, MD, MPH., eIRB#: 28546
Endometrial Biopsy Study
The purpose of this research is to study the endometrium (the tissue lining the uterus) in order to learn more about possible medical treatments for endometriosis, a painful condition in women in which the endometrium develops abnormally on the pelvic organs. PI: Jeff Jensen, MD MPH; IRB#: 5108
Cell Culture & Cervical Mucus
The purpose of this study is to help us determine how hormones impact the production of cervical mucus. PI: Leo Han, MD, MPH; IRB: 18776
