Ulipristal Acetate and Mammographic Density

This study is being conducted to learn more about the effects of progesterone modulators on breast cancer screening mammography. One such commercially available progesterone receptor modulator is ulipristal acetate (UPA), which is available under the trade name ella as emergency contraception. We are hoping to find out whether taking the study drug, UPA, decreases mammographic density in people with dense breast tissue. The study drug is FDA approved for emergency contraception.

Eligibility

  • You are a woman between 18-50 years old
  • You are pre-menopausal
  • You had a mammogram in the last 2 years with a breast composition score of category C (heterogeneously dense) or category D (extremely dense)
  • You agree and are able to complete a breast MRI
  • You do not have a history of breast cancer
  • You are not using a hormonal form of birth control

Compensation

This study includes up to 2 breast MRI‘s, taking the study drug 4 times and completing electronic surveys
about symptoms (5 total) and compensates up to $430 for participation.
