Showers and lockers available for a fee. Lockers must be vacated within 24 hours.

Walking early or late

Paths to campus may pass through poorly lit areas. Bring a light source and never assume a person in a vehicle can see you. Consider walking with a friend.

For emergencies, call 911 if you're not on campus. If you are on an OHSU campus, call Public Safety at 503-494-4444 or use one of the blue emergency phones located around campus.

Walking directions by campus

Marquam Hill can be accessed by walking to the Tram at South Waterfront. Be sure you have valid fare or identification before boarding.

For walking uphill from the north, south or east:

  1. Several forest trails connect to Marquam Hill from Lair Hill, Council Crest Trail and the Marquam Nature Park.
  2. Marquam Hill is most easily accessed via Terwilliger Boulevard which has sidewalks and trail heads. Sam Jackson Park Road lacks a sidewalk or shoulder and is not accessible by foot.
  3. From Terwilliger Boulevard, elevators to upper campus are accessible via Garage E adjacent to Casey Eye Institute.

For walking uphill from the west:

  • Marquam Nature Park has several trails connecting to Marquam Hill.
  • Use caution and be aware of your visibility on the trail adjacent to Marquam Hill Road (which turns into Gibbs St and Sam Jackson Park Rd).

South Waterfront has off-street paths to campus from the north, south east and west.

From the north (Downtown): 

  • The multi-use path on Moody Ave connects directly to campus. Keep to walking lanes and be aware that bikes and scooters travel in adjacent lanes marked with a bike signal. 

From the south (South Portland and Sellwood):

  • The Willamette Greenway travels along the Willamette River from Sellwood Bridge to South Waterfront.

From the east (Southeast Portland):

  • Tilikum Crossing, Hawthorne Bridge and Sellwood Bridge all have wide walking paths to campus. Ross Island Bridge is not recommended for walking.

From the west (Lair Hill):

  • The Darlene Hooley Pedestrian Bridge (also known as the Gibbs Street Pedestrian Bridge) connects directly to South Waterfront along Gibbs Street.
