Biography

Sara has nearly twenty years of full-scope midwifery experience and provides clinic-based care at the Center for Women's Health along with the OB/GYN generalists. Sara has cared for women during pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period as well as gynecologic care from young adulthood through the post-menopausal period. She has also spent much of her career focused on family planning including pregnancy options counseling and management, birth control, pre-conception counseling, as well as miscarriage management. She enjoys educating and empowering women to make decisions about their health care that aligns with their personal philosophy and needs.

She believes in evidence-based medicine as the cornerstone of good care and enjoys working in an academic environment. Sara grew up in New Jersey and came to Oregon in 1991 for part of her undergraduate education. After college, Sara decided to become a midwife while working as a health promoter in the migrant camps and with Head Start in Cornelius, Oregon. After training at a birth center in El Paso, Texas she went to New York City for graduate school. She worked in Seattle for 15 years before returning to Portland with her family in 2017, which really feels like coming home. She enjoys music and the arts, listening to podcasts while on urban hikes, kayaking and hiking and just being in nature.
