About me

Sara has nearly twenty years of full-scope midwifery experience and provides clinic-based care at the Center for Women's Health along with the OB/GYN generalists. Sara has cared for women during pregnancy, delivery and the postpartum period as well as gynecologic care from young adulthood through the post-menopausal period. She has also spent much of her career focused on family planning including pregnancy options counseling and management, birth control, pre-conception counseling, as well as miscarriage management. She enjoys educating and empowering women to make decisions about their health care that aligns with their personal philosophy and needs.

She believes in evidence-based medicine as the cornerstone of good care and enjoys working in an academic environment. Sara grew up in New Jersey and came to Oregon in 1991 for part of her undergraduate education. After college, Sara decided to become a midwife while working as a health promoter in the migrant camps and with Head Start in Cornelius, Oregon. After training at a birth center in El Paso, Texas she went to New York City for graduate school. She worked in Seattle for 15 years before returning to Portland with her family in 2017, which really feels like coming home. She enjoys music and the arts, listening to podcasts while on urban hikes, kayaking and hiking and just being in nature.

Insurance

Before scheduling an appointment

  1. Check your network. If you have health insurance,  call your company to find out if the OHSU Health location or provider you plan to visit is part of your network.
  2. Ask what you will pay. Your insurance company can tell you what your costs are likely to be.

If you schedule an appointment and your health insurance does not include OHSU Health, you may have to pay more than if you go to a provider in your insurance network.

Visit our billing and insurance page for more information.

  13. My first visit at OHSU. The midwife practitioner was absolutely incredible. She reviewed my history thoroughly, explained things thoughtfully and gave me the most complete exam I've ever had. I didn't have to wait from check in until appointment. Quick service. In and out. VERY happy.

  22. I needed to meet with her in order to get a prescription, wasn't sure if I also needed a full exam, but I did not, so we discussed my symptoms and she ordered the prescription and told me how to use it. It was great, took 10 minutes.

  23. Very nice and helpful, knew my background

  24. I've met with Dr. Fahey a couple times now and at each encounter she was professional and kind. Although I felt like she was not personable. There was an awkwardness to the appointment and felt rushed at the end. I do appreciate that she remembered some parts of my medical history. But I still wouldn't choose her to be my primary midwife. She seems very knowledgeable but our energies don't seem to match. I prefer seeing a doctor who I can be myself around.
