Biography

Clare Sherley, D.N.P., CNM, FACNM, is a queer midwife, educator, Associate Professor and Program Director of the Nurse-Midwifery program at the OHSU School of Nursing.

Her work centers reproductive justice, queer and trans health and the preparation of midwives as clinicians and systems changers. She has led curricular and programmatic change to make midwifery education more explicitly justice-centered, including supporting a prior program’s transition toward a reproductive justice framework.

Dr. Sherley’s teaching and leadership are grounded in student-centered education, inclusive sexual and reproductive health care and the belief that students should be both supported and challenged as they become midwives. Her work in queer and trans health has focused on creating learning environments and clinical resources that support affirming, excellent care for LGBTQIA2S+ patients and communities.

At OHSU, she is especially interested in building learning experiences that help students develop strong clinical reasoning, professional courage and a clear sense of purpose. She is excited to mentor future midwives who understand clinical care, community accountability and systems change as inseparable parts of the work.
