Tom Sargent Safety Center

Programs and services
In these challenging times, The Tom Sargent Safety Center at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital remains dedicated to keeping your child safe.
Virtual Car Seat Education Sessions
A certified child passenger safety technician will meet virtually with you to provide education, technical assistance, and guidance on the installation and use of your child’s car safety seat. While this service does not replace a traditional one-on-one car seat check, it can be a great resource for you until it is safe to begin in-person car seat checks again.
If you are in need of a low-cost car seat, please contact us to see if you are eligible for the ODOT car seat distribution program.
Remote Home Safety Consultations
One of our Injury Prevention Educators connects remotely with you to provide individualized, age specific, home safety education. We are able to share applicable resources, troubleshoot areas of concern, and make suggestions for safety-related products to provide a safer environment for your family.
Virtual Infant Safety Consultations
If you have a little one on the way or a newborn, this is a great resource for learning about best practices in regards to infant safety. Topics include safe sleep, basic childproofing, traveling with baby, and more.
Phone Sales (Curbside Product Pickup)
Families that live locally (Portland Metro Area), are now able to place phone orders for safety products available at the Doernbecher Tom Sargent Safety Resource Center (view available products) and schedule curbside product pickup. Order pickup will be at the main entrance of OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital or in Hillsboro at the Hillsboro Medical Center. Our team is following safety protocols that adhere to all required social distancing and sanitizing guidelines (pickup timelines and further details provided at the time of order).

Where: You can make an appointment at OHSU Doernbecher or Hillsboro Medical Center.
