Tom Sargent Safety Center
Programs and services
In these challenging times, the Tom Sargent Safety Center at OHSU Doernbecher Children’s Hospital remains dedicated to keeping your child safe.
Virtual car seat education sessions
A certified child passenger safety technician can meet with you virtually. The technician can provide education and technical help on installing and using your child’s car safety seat. This service does not replace a traditional one-on-one car seat check, but it can be a great resource if you're not comfortable with in-person checks.
If you need a low-cost car seat, please contact us to see if you are eligible for the Oregon Department of Transportation's car seat distribution program.
Remote home-safety consultations
One of our injury prevention educators can connect remotely with you to provide individual, age-specific education on home safety. We can share resources, address concerns, and suggest safety-related products.
Virtual infant-safety consultations
If you have a newborn or a baby on the way, this is a great way to learn best practices for infant safety. Topics include safe sleep, basic childproofing, and traveling with your baby.
Safety products with curbside pickup
Families in the Portland metro area can place phone orders for safety products available at the Doernbecher Tom Sargent Safety Resource Center (see products) and schedule curbside pickup. Arrange pickup at Doernbecher's main entrance or at Hillsboro Medical Center. Our team follows COVID-19 safety protocols.
Car Seat Program
What it is: Certified child passenger safety technicians will make sure your child is in the right type of seat. We’ll also provide education to make sure the seat is installed and used correctly. We are scheduling virtual car seat consultations to help you make sure your child travels safely on every trip. There is no cost to you.
Where: You can make an appointment at Doernbecher or Hillsboro Medical Center by calling 503-418-5666.
