Pediatric Pulmonology and Sleep Medicine Team

The pulmonology and sleep medicine experts at OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital combine expertise with dedication to caring for children and teens. They offer:

Comprehensive care: Our doctors work together to treat conditions affecting the lungs and breathing.  We make sure that your child receives coordinated, individual care at every step. You’ll find experts in:

  • Pulmonology (respiratory system)
  • Sleep medicine
  • Behavioral sleep medicine (psychology)
  • Otolaryngology (ear, nose and throat)
  • Gastroenterology (digestive system)
  • Dentistry and orthodontics
  • Craniofacial surgery
  • General surgery

Care for the whole child: Our team includes respiratory therapists, nurses, dietitians, speech pathologists, and social workers to support the well-being of your child and family.

Access to the latest findings: As part of Oregon’s only academic health center, our doctors also pursue discoveries in the lab. This offers your child access to the latest treatments and a network of clinical trials.

Aerodigestive expertsOur aerodigestive program has two directors — pediatric pulmonologist Dr. Danny Hsia and pediatric otolaryngologist Dr. Derek Lam. This gives patients access to the full spectrum of expertise.

Experts in complex sleep disorders: Our specialists in pediatric sleep medicine, otolaryngology, dentistry, orthodontics and craniofacial surgery work together to treat disorders that haven’t responded to standard treatment.

Experts in behavioral sleep medicine (psychology): The American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends cognitive and behavioral treatment as the most evidence-based way to address insomnia (problems falling asleep and frequent night wakings) in children. Our Sleep Medicine team includes sleep psychologists, sometimes called behavioral sleep medicine providers. They can talk with families about how changing behaviors and thoughts about sleep can improve sleep for your child and for the whole family. Our clinic makes sure to partner with children and families to find the strategies that work best for them, because every child and family are unique. Our sleep psychologists can also work with your sleep medicine doctor to help your child with other sleep problems, such as using positive airway pressure for sleep disordered breathing or changing your sleep schedule to help with a circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorder. Our clinic is a team, meaning that all families can see both our medical sleep doctors and our behavioral sleep psychologists for sleep support!
