Learn about Dermatology E-Visits

Depending on where you live, physical constraints, or your scheduling availability, making an appointment to see a dermatology provider can be difficult. To combat these factors and increase dermatological access across the entire state of Oregon, we have launched Dermatology E-visits.

An E-visit is a way to receive medical advice using technology instead of going in-person to a clinic. Securely through MyChart, you will complete an online medical questionnaire explaining your concern, and upload photos for review by the provider.  Follow-up recommendations or care plans will then be sent based on what the provider is able to observe from your description and photos.

The person requesting the E-visit must have an OHSU MyChart account, be 18 years or older and due to state laws must be physically in Oregon at the time of submitting the E-visit.

An E-Visit can be used to ask for advice for non-urgent conditions, such as:

  • Acne
  • Accutane/Isotretinoin Management
  • Eczema
  • Psoriasis
  • Rash
  • Spot or Growth of Concern

The cost of your E-visit will depend on your insurance, but has a maximum charge of $75.

Requesting an e-visit (by computer)

  1. Visit the OHSU MyChart website and log-in using your username and password (we recommend opening this link in a new tab, so you can follow along with the instructions)
    1. If you do not have an existing MyChart account, select "SIGN UP NOW"
    2. If you have an activation code, enter this information. If you do not have an activation code, select "SIGN UP ONLINE"
    3. Complete the "Request an Activation Code" questions, and follow the prompts to set up your account
  2. Once logged in, select "Dermatology E-Visit Advice" from the quick links in the sidebar of the welcome page
  3. Accept the Terms and Conditions of Service
  4. Enter payment information if prompted to do so
  5. Select your reason for visit, who the E-visit is being sent to (Dermatology E-Visit Team), and enter pharmacy information
  6. Update personal information if prompted to do so
  7. Answer the questionnaire about your E-visit to the best of your ability
  8. Upload photos to help the team better treat your condition
    • It is recommended to submit at least two pictures: one close up (4 inches away) and one overview (12 inches away)
  9. Submit your E-Visit by selecting “Submit E-Visit”. If you need to edit your submission, click edit under the Completed Steps.

Once your E-visit has been submitted, it will be reviewed by a provider. You will receive followup contact within 48 hours via your MyChart account.

Requesting an e-visit (by smartphone)

  1. Download the MyChart Phone App by searching "MyChart" on the Apple or Android app store (more info)
  2. When prompted for “Select an Organization”, Search for “Oregon Health and”
  3. Select OHSU MyChart (OHSU Flame logo), and click through to OHSU MyChart
  4. If you have an existing OHSU MyChart account, log in with your username and passowrd
    1. If you do not have an existing OHSU MyChart account, click “Sign up now”
    2. If you have an activation code, enter this here. If you do not have an activation code, select "Sign up Online"
    3. Complete the "Request an Activation Code" questions, and follow the prompts to set up your account
  5. At your home “ACTIVITIES” page, select “E-Visit”
  6. Accept “E-Visit Terms and Conditions for Dermatology and OHSU”
  7. Complete “What brings you in today”, “Who would you like to send this E-visit to” (Dermatology E-visit Team), and “Where would you like any prescriptions to be sent?”
  8. Update payment information if prompted
  9. Update personal information if prompted
  10. Answer the questionnaire about your E-visit to the best of your ability
  11. Upload photos to help the team better treat your condition
    • It is recommended to take at least two pictures: one close up (4 inches away) and one overview (12 inches away)
    • You can take a new photo, select an existing photo, or select existing document
  12. Submit your E-Visit by selecting “Submit E-Visit”. If you need to edit your submission, click edit under the Completed Steps.

Once your E-visit has been submitted, it will be reviewed by a provider. You will receive followup contact within 48 hours via your MyChart account.
