Nail Disorders Clinic

Nail Disorders
The OHSU Nail Disorders Clinic is dedicated to the diagnosis and treatment of complex nail disorders. Although dermatologists manage all conditions pertaining to skin, hair and nails; the specialty covers an extremely broad range of conditions, including many rare conditions.  Nail disease is a subset within that spectrum, but it also has a diverse scope that includes infectious, benign and malignant tumors such as skin cancer and melanoma, inflammatory conditions, and congenital nail problems.

The clinic is directed by Phoebe Rich, M.D., adjunct professor of dermatology, whose interest and expertise in nail disorders spans nearly 20 years. Alfons Krol, M.D. will support pediatric patients in the clinic.

There are various changes in nails that may be an indication that there is an underlying issue that needs attention. For example, white or black bands within the nail or under the skin need examination, as do other conditions that may be infections. The Nail Disorder Clinic is available as a referral center for community physicians whose patients would benefit from a consultation, but also accepts patients without a doctor's referral.
