Forensic Psychiatry Clinical Rotations
Rotation schedule overview
The fellowship year is divided into two 6-month blocks. One block is spent at the Northwest Forensic Institute (NFWI) and one block is spent at multiple sites. In addition, didactics are held every Friday afternoon at OHSU.
NEW SITE ANNOUNCEMENT: The OHSU Department of Psychiatry’s Forensic Fellowship Program is pleased to announce a new rotation site at the Northwest Forensic Institute. The owners of NWFI, Michelle Guyton, PhD, ABPP and Alex Millkey, PsyD, are accomplished forensic psychology experts who will mentor the program’s fellows for 6 months each as they conduct forensic evaluations and learn about the criminal justice system. The fellows will also have opportunities to act as psychiatric/medical consultants for NWFI as those issues arise and have opportunities to learn about other expert witness issues such as sentence mitigation and civil matters. As part of this transition, the rotation at the Oregon State Hospital will end in Fall 2025. Our program looks forward to working with NWFI. In addition to the fellows and lecturers, we often have additional participants join in seminars such as post-doctoral forensic psychology learners, psychiatry residents, and medical students.
AAPL Conference & Review Course
Every year, our faculty and fellows attend the American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL) conference. Additionally, the fellows attend the AAPL Review Course. Funding is provided for the fellows to attend these events.
