Welcome to the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program at OHSU

The Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program offers a well-balanced training experience. Fellows spend half their time at OHSU (a quaternary care academic hospital) and half at VA Portland Health Care System. Time is divided between inpatient and subspecialty clinic settings based on fellows' clinical interests. This diversity of experience aligns with the specialty's shift from predominantly inpatient care to a mix of inpatient and subspecialty areas. In ambulatory settings, fellows consult in both primary care and specialty care programs, provide continuity care, and build longitudinal relationships with interdisciplinary teams.

The academic curriculum includes weekly CL-focused formal didactics, weekly CL case conference, and Joint Fellow Seminar, hosted with Geriatric and Addiction Psychiatry fellows. Fellows gain the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to provide expert psychiatric care to patients with comorbid and complex medical-surgical problems and consult effectively with all other specialties. We emphasize developing fellows into lifelong learners and preparing them to enter a career as clinician-educators.

The program has received full accreditation by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Most members of the OHSU and VA Portland Consultation Liaison Psychiatry faculty hold American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology subspecialty certification in consultation-liaison psychiatry, and some hold dual Medicine-Psychiatry Board Certification and Addiction Medicine and Psychiatry Board Certification. Some faculty members are clinical researchers at the VA Health Services Research & Development-funded Center for the Study of Chronic Comorbid Mental and Physical Disorders. Many CL faculty are nationally renowned in education and leadership roles in organized medicine, including the American Psychiatric Association, the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry, and the Oregon Psychiatric Physicians Association. 

The fellowship is one-year in duration and at the PGY-5 level. We welcome your interest in the program.
