Drs. David Sheridan and Jessica Grant awarded 2020 OHSU Biomedical Innovation Grant for positioner to optimize baby feeding position

Sheridan and Jessica Grant

Infant feeding is vital for neonatal development as well as parental interaction with their children. All babies have a degree of reflux as they grow and this can result in pain, difficulty with feeding and parental anxiety. This results in a large number of pediatric office visits, emergency department visits and unneeded medication administration. This positioner will optimize the feeding position for infants to improve the physiologic reflux they have to improve feeding outcomes and decrease parental anxiety and unnecessary medical costs. It is envisioned to replace on-the-market baby pillows with an evidence-based solution. Jessica Grant is a speech and language pathologist at OHSU.
