About me

Dr. Emily Baird is an assistant professor in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU). She is a native of the Pacific Northwest, receiving her undergraduate degree in chemistry from Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington. After college, Dr. Baird completed a Ph.D. in organic chemistry at Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. She received her medical degree from Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland and completed her training in anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Following residency, she completed a fellowship in obstetric anesthesia at HUP. Dr. Baird joined the HUP faculty in 2010 and served as the director of obstetric anesthesia. She was delighted by the opportunity to return to the Pacific Northwest and join the staff at OHSU, which she did in 2014.

Dr. Baird’s academic interests include medical education and obstetric anesthesia. She has been active in medical student and resident education throughout her career. Dr. Baird currently serves as the assistant resident program director in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine. The majority of Dr. Baird’s publications are in the field of obstetric anesthesia, including multiple reviews, journal articles, and book chapters. She currently serves as an associate editor for the Survey of Anesthesiology. Dr. Baird’s clinical interests include anesthesia for obstetrics, liver transplantation, and intra-abdominal surgery.

Dr. Baird lives in Portland with her husband and two sons. She enjoys spending time with her family and they all appreciate the plethora of activities the Pacific Northwest has to offer, especially hiking, biking, and skiing.
