Program Design

Program

The OHSU PGY2 Pediatric Pharmacy Residency Program is a full-time, 12-month program that provides residents with extensive training opportunities in pediatrics, practice management, and academia. The program offers one position for each residency class beginning the first Monday after 4th of July and ending in early July of the following year.

OHSU offers a structured training program in several inpatient and ambulatory pediatric areas. The program allows opportunity for focused areas of learning through elective experiences. The resident's knowledge base, past experience, and interests dictate the choice and length of experiences. The resident, program director, and primary preceptors jointly develop the resident schedule.

Residents receive a list of goals and objectives at the beginning of each learning experience. The residents meet with their preceptors to formally review performance at midpoint and end of the learning experience. A written report assessing the resident is prepared based on the ASHP Residency Learning System (RLS) using the PharmAcademic evaluation system. On a quarterly basis, the residency program director meets with each resident, providing an evaluation of his/her progress based on the comments of the preceptors, resident self-evaluations, and assessment of the resident's strengths/areas for improvement.

Service requirement

Consistent with the ASHP residency standards, the OHSU PGY2 Pediatric Residency experience is primarily a practical, rather than didactic or classroom experience. Practice skills are developed throughout the program in all aspects of pharmaceutical care. After completing appropriate training, the resident will staff a total of 4 shifts per month in pediatric inpatient care settings. All residents must be licensed in Oregon by October 1st. Visit the Oregon Board of Pharmacy web site for additional details.
