Biography
Vinicius joined the Moss Lab in July 2026 to build the lab’s database and optimize data processing pipelines, including motion correction and multi-dimensional analysis of two-photon data from awake behaving mice. He is using his expertise in coding, machine learning, high-performance computing, and app design to help the Moss Lab investigate how the olfactory system processes sensory and non-sensory information.
Vinicius moved to the US from Brazil to pursue a PhD in Mathematics at Indiana University, where he studied topology and mathematical physics. His work with Prof. Dylan Thurston focused on computation analysis of manifolds. During his PhD, he developed efficient algorithms to compute key invariants of geometric structures.
Besides research, Vinicius enjoys creating clear, interactive data visualizations and teaching signal analysis and dynamical systems. He also loves puzzle games, playing music, kiteboarding, bouldering, and hiking.
