  • Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, School of Medicine

Biography

Dr. Sara Shimanek considers being a family doctor an honor. It allows her to partner with each patient and provide her expertise to help them through good times and bad. She can also help them through a complex medical system. She strives to help her patients achieve the happy and healthy future everyone deserves.

Her special interests include reproductive health, behavioral health, adolescent medicine and preventive medicine through diet and exercise.

Dr. Shimanek chose a career in medicine after watching her mother provide exceptional care as a nurse in their community hospital in rural Oklahoma. Dr. Shimanek's goal as a doctor is to listen well and provide evidence-based, equitable care to all her patients. She appreciates the variety, and the familiarity, that come with caring for people throughout their lives.

When she's not working, Dr. Shimanek spends time with her partner, Dr. William Shimanek. He is also an OHSU medical resident, in the Department of Neurology. Together, they enjoy Portland's array of amazing food, riding bicycles and going birdwatching at the many nearby state parks.
