Sanjiv Chopra, M.S, BChD (He/Him)
Biography
At OHSU, I combined analytical and operational project work to develop a well-rounded informatics profile. My Capstone project used the NHANES national health dataset to demonstrate that early periodontal inflammation is a statistically significant marker of diabetes risk — even before clinical gum disease develops — raising important questions about how dental settings could function as early detection points within wider healthcare systems. In parallel, my SPRINT project tackled a real-world workflow problem inside Epic, analysing the inefficiencies of fax-driven clinician signature processes and designing an electronic solution using existing EHR functionality, complete with stakeholder engagement, governance recommendations, and a pilot evaluation framework. Together, these two projects reflect my core focus: using data to identify where healthcare systems are failing, and operational informatics to fix them. Currently on T15 postdoc at the bioinformatics division.
