Biography

I am the Faculty Development Clinical Teaching Specialist in the Teaching and Learning Center at OHSU. My work is focused on advancing clinical teaching and learning, with particular interests in technical specialties and surgical education, the interface of psychology and education and improving the clinical learning environment. I have taught a wide range of health and medical education classes and have trained faculty on how to teach effectively in a variety of settings and formats.

Prior training and work includes: completing a NIH-funded postdoctoral research fellowship in OHSU’s Department of Psychiatry, practicing as a naturopathic physician (integrative mental health care), serving as a Master Reviewer for Quality Matters, creating and teaching integrative health courses (both online and in-person) and completing OHSU's RELATE Lab training.

I coach speakers on how to present effectively and have created/contributed to a range of faculty development trainings/programs including the Clinical Teaching Resource site, the Education Scholarship site, general and intraoperative clinical teaching observation programs and faculty development trainings in Temperament and Education, Psychological Safety and the Clinical Learning Environment, Inclusive Teaching Practices, Microlearning, Chalk Talks, Just-in-time Learning and Providing Effective Feedback. My current research focuses on the impact and of a Just-in-Time Teaching App, Clinical Teaching Assessment and Clinical Teaching Observation.

Outside of work I enjoy swimming (preferably in open water), exploring the Pacific NW with my husband, cooking, sewing, gardening and spending time with animals.
