Biography

Dr. Johnson graduated from the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine before moving to Portland to complete a residency in general psychiatry followed by a fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry. He joined the OHSU Division of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry in 1999 as a faculty member. Dr. Johnson soon focused on pediatric sleep medicine eventually obtaining board certification in the field. He was instrumental in developing the OHSU Pediatric Sleep Disorders Program which now serves hundreds of youth each year. Dr. Johnson served as co-medical director of the OHSU Sleep Disorders Program from 2007 to 2012 and worked in the program until 2018. Presently, Dr. Johnson directs the child and adolescent psychiatry consultation-liaison (CAP CL) service at OHSU and serves as a college coach in the OHSU School of Medicine. Additionally, he is a consulting psychiatrist to the Oregon Psychiatric Access Line for Kids (OPAL-K). His advocacy and research interests include suicide prevention and emergency child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Johnson serves on several state and national committees and workgroups related to these interests.
