Kristi Tonning has been the Director of the Radiation Therapy Program and Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiation Medicine since July 2015. She is also a member of the OHSU Interprofessional Education Steering Committee.
Kristi grew up in Portland, Oregon and graduated from the OHSU Radiation Therapy Program in 2001. After working a short time in Portland, she moved to Stavanger, Norway and continued her radiation therapy career at the Stavanger University Hospital. She worked as a radiation therapist, dosimetrist and department manager for over 12 years in Stavanger. Kristi earned a Master of Science in Change Management from the University of Stavanger in 2009, and has worked as a management consultant for change management projects in the oil and gas industry. After 14 years in Norway, Kristi and her family moved back to Portland in the summer of 2015.
In 2016, Kristi oversaw the installation and curricular implementation of the Virtual Environment for Radiation Therapy Training (VERT) at OHSU. She later helped develop and implement a patient education project bringing the VERT to the Tuality/OHSU Cancer Center for patient education. Tuality/OHSU was the first in the nation to offer a 3-D virtual simulation patient education session, prior to treatment with radiation therapy. Kristi is currently completing her Ph.D. at Pacific University, with the focus on patient education in radiation oncology, specifically patient understanding and anxiety related to radiation therapy, utilizing virtual reality.Read more
