Kevin Zhang, M.D.

Biography

Kevin Zhang, MD is a second-year clinical informatics fellow at OHSU. Clinically, Dr. Zhang is board-certified in family medicine and practices primary care at the Portland VA Medical Center, and also has prior residency training in emergency medicine. Dr. Zhang also holds an undergraduate degree in computer science from the University of Chicago. His journey into informatics began with a summer internship during medical school at the National Institutes of Health/National Library of Medicine under the mentorship of Dr. Dina Demner-Fushman, focusing on the use of natural language processing (NLP) and machine learning to perform automated patient matching for clinical trial eligibility based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. Dr. Zhang's current academic interests include healthcare applications for artificial intelligence, usage patterns of AI ambient scribing, and differences in cost and quality of care between physicians and non-physician providers such as nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
