Karina Stone, M.D.

Biography

Dr. Stone has more than 10 years of experience as a general psychiatrist. During these years she has primarily worked in acute care hospitals with patients that suffer from severe and persistent mental illness as well as with patients in acute crisis due to life trauma. Additionally, she has received advanced training in dialectic behavioral therapy and has years of practice in psychotherapy in outpatient settings. Dr. Stone’s psychosomatic training also informs her practice when managing medically complex patients. Her teaching focus centers on descriptive psychiatry and phenomenology, diagnostic paradigms of affective psychosis, psychodynamic thinking, and the role of trauma in psychiatric presentations. Since 2017 she has had an active role in hospital administration, public psychiatry, and systems of care and is the adult inpatient medical director at Unity. During her role as medical director at Unity she has led both education and quality efforts involving safe medication management and clinical conferences of complex cases.
