Joseph Thoits, M.D.
Biography
A native of southern California, Dr. Thoits came to Portland for residency and child fellowship at OHSU and never left. Since 2018, Dr. Thoits has been the medical director of the child and adolescent inpatient psychiatric unit at Unity Center for Behavioral Health, and prior to that had worked in the community both as a consultant for various community mental health organizations and in private practice.
Dr. Thoits has a special interest in managing aggression, psychotherapy for anxiety, treating ADHD and incorporating positive psychology wherever possible into his work. He greatly enjoys the teaching opportunities and team approach at the hospital level of care and is equally enthusiastic about joining OPAL-K to partner with community providers to help kids and families where they need it most, in the community. When not practicing psychiatry, Dr. Thoits enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters and riding his bike.
