John Cheney, B.A.

  • Intern, CEDAR, OHSU Knight Cancer Institute, School of Medicine

Biography

John Cheney joins CEDAR as a Computational Biology Intern from the Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program at the University of Oregon. John completed his B.A. in Biology at Willamette University in 2019, then pivoted, moving back to Japan to work in the 2019 Rugby World Cup, 2020 Tokyo Olympics and as an interpreter and civil servant for the municipal government of Fukuroi City (sister city to Hillsboro, Oregon). While a graduate student, John and his team worked in collaboration with the Maxson-Braun Lab to develop an interactive Rshiny app that allows wet lab research biologists to iteratively subset cell populations of interest in CITE-seq data. In the near but distant future, John hopes to become an MD or PhD and run his own research lab. Outside the lab John enjoys traveling, learning new languages, cooking, baking (and eating). John is thrilled to be joining the team at CEDAR and is looking forward to bringing an end to cancer, as we know it.
